3 Page PDF

I had to create a 3 page PDF showcasing what I have done currently, what typefaces I chose, colours etc to receive feedback from my tutor on what I need to improve upon and develop even further. But because of what has happened with University closing down because of the corona virus, it was switched to video calls but unfortunately I couldn’t make then because I have not been well.

Taking the initiative I can see what needs to be improved and developed even further.

Transferring Ideas Digitally

From my hand drawn sketches, I have transferred them digitally onto InDesign to create infographics and a poster that can be used on a website, Instagram and Facebook page or even to be printed to be put in with packaging etc.

I used colours from the ZERO2FIVE logos the colour scheme for both the infographic and poster to keep it consistent and cohesive throughout. I wanted to create two infographics on handling raw food and the types of raw food poisonings and the prevention and the two posters on ‘Clean, Prep, Wash’.

Transferring ideas digitally gives you a real sense of what your hand drawn ideas will look and it will give you a better sense of what will have worked and wouldn’t work as a whole. I will be showing what I have done to my tutor to get some feedback and what aspects I can develop even further.

Creating imagery

I started off by sketching some imagery onto my ipad using procreate, and I wanted to use non aggressive imagery as this is what the client has asked for, so I decided to create vector imagery on my ipad for my work. When doing this you always need to do what the client is asking for as it shows you are meeting the demands of the client and what they want.

Initial Ideas

From the research I did on infographic posters and normal posters, I drew up some different sketches for each one, and showing possible variation of each design.

Doing ideation plays an important part of a graphics designers practice, as we need to show where the initial ideas came from and show what our ideation process is, and giving a variety gives the client you have different possibilities such as layouts, titles, logos, colours etc also shows development from the first ideas to the end result.

Research into Infographics + Poster

I researched into different types of infographics and posters to help me with my ideation process to design my own.

Doing research plays an important part in a graphic designers practice as we need to research into the many aspects whilst doing a client project such as researching into the client and their business, the topic that is being asked to design on, this helps myself get a better understanding of the client and their background and a better sense of the matter at hand, it is vital to do your research when creating your work to show that you have understood what the client is asking and wanting off you.

6 Frames for Thinking about Info

We had a workshop and we were given the task of using the 6 frames technique to pick apart specific information. Currently with the pandemic that is going we had to using this technique on the Corona Virus to pick apart 6 aspects. I was given 2 websites to find information on the Corona Virus which were the NHS and The Sun website to answer each section.

Purpose, Accuracy, Point of View, Interest, Value and Outcome

Doing workshops like these are very useful for upcoming projects and future works as its a new research technique which is more invasive in the way I can pick apart and gather information easily and efficiently. I can easily use this technique in other activities in my daily life which makes it a versatile technique to know and to use.

Researching into Brief – Client + Subject

For this project, I decided to do some further research into the client (ZERO2FIVE) and researched into the subject they want us to educate the public on which is about raw feeding and the safety aspects etc.

I researched into the subject matter the client wants us to focus on, which is Raw Feeding for pets. I looked into what raw feeding is, the common concerns of raw feeding, food safety, potential benefits and risks, following laws on what needs to be on the packaging, the different types of raw feed and what types of raw meat poisoning occurs in each meat/poultry/fish products on how to educate pet owners on raw food safety and prevent any kind of food poisoning from happening.

I also came up with some ideas on what I can create for the client, like infographics, poster, stickers and a leaflet but I am still waiting on hearing back from the client on what they would like for us to create, this will make it so much easier and alto clearer to create something they need for this brief.

The purpose of doing research into specifically the client and there business is vitally important in understanding there aesthetics and what they are all about and this helps myself as a designer helps me get a better understanding on what style of design aesthetics they have through out. It is quite helpful for myself to understand the brief further.

Creative Brief

In our group, we had to create to create a creative brief for the clients to show that we designers understand in depth what the client is asking from us and also what they are expecting from us.

So as a group we had to create the creative brief showcasing what we understand in each part of the brief, which helped us work together to get a better understanding on each part and if some of us didn’t fully understand, we would help each other out when this happened. Some people/person didn’t really participate, so the remainder of the group carried on with this. We also had to pick a member of the group to be the ‘leader’ that would contact the client and then relay this information back to us.

This was a good exercise to do as it gave me knowledge and the insight to do this in the future and how to professionally lay out and set out key points, it was a valuable aspect to know for future work and clients to further understanding of what the client wants.

Brainstorming Workshop

Today we had a workshop with Wendy where we were put into groups based on what briefs we picked, I chose Raw Feeding Food Poisoning, it was myself, Luke, Will and 2 of the French Exchange students, we will be working in a group dynamic until the end of the project.

As a group we had to come up with a few ‘How might we persuade (who) to do (what), what can we bring individually to the group, persuasive words, what we know about the target audience, coming up with bad, safe and wild ideas and what we know about the subject/message and client. We also had to chose one idea and present this to this the rest of the class and see how we could get our subject, intentions and message across to everyone else.

Doing this was quite useful to do as a group as we were able to generate ideas a lot quicker and came up with more of a variety of ideas and a larger amount of ideas. This is also a good way to break down a brief that inst so clear at first and be able to dissect the brief and using keywords to create and generate ideas and to help us have a clearer sense of what the brief is asking us to do.

Task 2 – Whats the Story?

I have been given the task to research into the era given and look into persuasive language and see what defined that era in different aspects like music, war etc.

So I looked into different stories that happened in the 90’s era and I found:

  1. Console Wars – Alot of consoles came out during the 1990’s – Game boy, Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Neo Geo, Sega Game Gear etc, a lot of competition.
  2. Internet – Unrestricted access use, 1998 – google was made
  3. WWF Attitude era – very popular in the 90’s
  4. Boys bands + Girl groups – NSYNC, Backstreet boys, Spice Girls
  5. Grunge style – Nirvana were known for there grunge style
  6. Gulf War – August 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait to its southeast to gain more control over the oil supply of the Middle East. In response, the United States and the UN Security Council demanded that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein withdraw Iraqi troops from Kuwait, but Hussein refused.

Nintendo

nintendoAudience – Kids, teenagers and possibly adults.

What is the message? – Showing the new generation of the Nintendo and showing the new software the console has, advertising games along side it that are specifically for the console, shown in a magazine setting so is easily accessible to everyone.

How is the message carried? – In a magazine setting, dark background, bold and vibrant typeface, grabs your attention makes you want to read it and buy it.

Gulf War

gulf warAudience – Adults, elderly people (more mature to understand what is going on)

What is the message? – Showcasing what was happening in the Gulf, showing war and destruction to make people aware about the war and to give knowledge.

How is the message carried? – Contrast of colours i.e. black against the red/yellow/orange tones (fire), war ephemera, light blue typeface gives depth and more contrast against all the colours being used.

Nirvana

nircaavaAudience – Teenagers, adults

What is the message?- Showcasing a band and their band aesthetics, quite grungy fashion style, fashion statement, this also gives an insight to what style of the music Nirvana makes.

How is the message carried? – Using photography is the best way to showcase anything, using photography to showcase Nirvana’s style is an ideal way to get the message across to the public.
