New Project

For this new project, I have been out into a group with my fellow classmates to come up with and create a campaign based on anything we would like, and these outcomes have to be digitally produced. Starting off we decided to create a mind map on what ideas we would like to explore even further for this campaign.

So we all came up with different areas we would be interested un looking at, by the next time we meet, we will have an idea of what we would like to look at.

Workshop

Reflecting on today’s workshop, I was able to work within a group setting which enabled me to get experience working like this in the near future as graphic designers do not usually work alone, usually in a group setting atmosphere.

We had to create a response to the Manifesto in 1964 and a more modern version in 2000, and from this we had to create either an animation, a GIF or poster etc based on fact that Graphic Designers lost there imagination to sell things such as cigarettes, junk food etc and it more based on advertising than anything else, so as a group we created something in response to this.

So as a group we decided to do create an animation based on companies invading peoples privacy through social media i.e Facebook, we drew out frames to show how advertisements are all around us and basically in our faces.

We came up with a few ideas but decided to stick with the idea of the advertisements running at a person as its in your face.

Final Outcome – Artistic Movement Poster

I have used 3 columns, but I also took on board all the feedback I was given and definitely implemented it into this poster making vast improvements and I think there is a much better improvement. I altered the hierarchy, added subheading, a quotation etc. Reflecting on this, having feedback is very important and it has helped me improve on my current poster to make it more readable but also more aesthetically pleasing.

Developing Artistic Movement Poster – after receiving feedback

After receiving feedback about my poster, I had to make changes in which to improve upon. The feedback was very helpful, I had to create a better sense of hierarchy, disperse the body coy to make it more readable and noticeable, add sub headings and a quotation to give a sense of what the movement is about. So from this, I went back and started developing different ideas for the poster from my original poster and improving upon it further.

I have drawn some developmental ideas of how I would like the layout to look, taking everything on board from the feedback making improvements.

Final Outcome – Movement Project

For the Movement Project, I created an animation called inyourfacism, this is about people bringing you down due to the fact you come from a different country to them, so putting my personal experience in this animation gives a story line to the main message which is that you should always be proud of where you come from despite all the comments you get from different people, and this is what I portrayed in my animation.

Continuing, I used two programmes to create my animation, which is After Effects and Photoshop, all the development and progress of using these programmes have been documented in my other blog posts. Reflecting on this, using After Effects has given me an insight on what is used in a professional setting and how it is the main programme to be used to create animations etc, using Photoshop, I was able to create my imagery and layer different aspects to create movement but add to the animation and create movement within After Effects which I found very useful to do.

Looking back on this project, I have never used After Effects but now after this project, I have absorbed a lot of useful knowledge after using this and it has made me more confident for the future to use this in other aspects. I feel like I have challenged myself in this project, creating an animation that had to move and I felt that I have done really well to do this considering I have never used After Effects before.

Using After Effects to create my animation

I used After Effects to create my animation because it is a piece of software that is used in the professional setting, and using this will enable me to learn how to use the basics of After Effects and later on improve my knowledge as the course progresses.

Through this project I have learnt many new things for example using After Effects, creating layers, adding special effects, using the position key to create movement and so on.

In these images, it shows how much I have learnt over this project. Reflecting on this, I have learnt how to use a new programme which is used widely in the professional world and this will give me an insight for the future what to expect in the industry. Using many transitions and effects to create a seamless transition frame to frame, knowing how to do this will come in handy for future projects or tasks as I’ll know how to apply these and do it effectively.

Using Photoshop to create my imagery

For my animation, I have decided to use Adobe Photoshop to create my imagery for my animation. I have used various tools and techniques to create all this.

The reason why I used this programme to draw and sketch out my imagery is because I found that it was much easier to create various layers for different topics, I was able to use a background eraser and this enabled me to remove the background and have a specific subject as the focus instead of having the background which would be much harder for future projects and briefs. I also used a blending tool which enabled me to blend colours together and create more seamless gradients, this will be helpful in the future also for creating logos, brands etc. Also this programme has enabled me to use make slight adjustments to show the transitions and slight movements within the imagery to show a sense of movement which has helped me to see how my animation was looking as I designed my imagery.

I was able to use layers and the blending tool to create these images, I found it very useful to use these as it enabled to me to create a more 3D effect.

With creating the people, I started off with a simple base colour layer and layered darker and lighter shades to create some light and darkness throughout. I found this to be the easier and practical way to create people.

Development from last tutorial

After the tutorial I had, I did re sketch another story board but now after developing even further, I have created another story board but this time it is a more finalized idea for what my animation is going to be.

20181122_200220

This is the final story board I have created for my animation, there will be 11 key frames, which will be transitioning into each frame, using different transitioning effects, there will also be different layers in some of the frames, this will enable me to create movement within my animation.

It will tell the story of the movement within a classroom setting and from that it then will continue with the actual message and meaning of the movement, inyourfacism. Most, if not all my imagery will be hand drawn into the either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects to create my animation, and hand drawing this will show a more personal approach this. I will document all this through the animation phase.

Tutorial

I had another tutorial with another tutor, to see how my animation was looking at this time, and the feedback was that my animation didn’t flow and tell a story as well as it should, both myself and my tutor liked the school aspect of the animation so I was advised to start off with a school setting and tell the story of the movement through that to give a sense of where the movement all started which was in High School.

Reflecting from this, I learnt how important it is to have a flow to a story and also to have a good starting point for the animation to start from, which will attract the viewers but also tell the story more clearly and effective.

Development

I went back and started drawing up some more storyboards based solely on using imagery. So I thought about starting off with a world map and telling the story of the movement through this storyboard. Basically showing the movement through out the school life.
